This 1930s Californian bungalow was in a very run down condition. The property is situated in an ideal area of Parkdale which warranted the house renovation and extension work.
The client’s brief was to design and construct 3 bedrooms, a children’s retreat and bathroom for the first floor, as well as a master bedroom with a large walk round walk-in-robe and modern en-suite plus an additional bedroom on the ground floor. The ground floor extension was to include a large rumpus, dining and family and kitchen area with a walk in pantry. Additional requirements to the design brief were to provide a double garage and a large decking and outdoor spa area, as well as maximising all land usage with a landscaped garden to complement the Californian bungalow.
Whilst having modern fixtures and fittings such as Miele appliances and glass splashbacks in the kitchen and bathrooms, the client wanted to respect the integrity of the original period home by matching architraves, skirtings and cornice, and by tying the original polished floorboards into the new.
To complete the house renovation, new period home fencing and exposed aggregate concrete driveways with polished jarrah flooring were used to add the perfect harmony to the front entrance of this Californian bungalow.
